Nina
Ananiashvili was born in Tbilisi, Georgia, on March 28, 1963. When she
was a child she was very sickly.

Her
parents incurraged her to get into skating to strengthen her
health. By age six she became a ranked skater and by age ten she was
Georgia's junior champion. The same year she started training for
ballet. At age thirteen she entered the Moscow Choreographic Institute.

One of
her first partners in her second year was Andris Liepa. In 1986 they
both were winners of the Grand Prix in the Interenational Competition
in Jackson, Mississippi.

She was
awarded the Principal Status award and soon given prima ballerina
roles. She has truly become an international ballet superstar.

|
|
In 1985 she
won a gold medal in the Moscow International Ballet Competition.
Her
first
teacher was Natalia Viktorovna Zolotova.

Andris was just one of her partners they won many awards
together.

Even
before she graduated she had won the Gold Medal, junior division,
at Varna International Competition.
Her
first major role was Odette-Odile in Swan Lake. This was in 1982
with her Bolshoi tour.

She
also won the junior division of the Grand Prix at Moscow in in 1981,
Andris Liepa was her partner.

They
were a hit with the audience and critics of the 1986 Bolshoi tour of
the UK, and the tour in the U.S.A. |
